Yes folks, my record of losing mini games to women continues on unblemished...lol.
Anyways, my GF has been wanting to play a game after
Murl came over and explained the rules as he and I played a game some weeks back. Murl's really good at explaining things as he owns a fast food restaurant, and his many years of teaching the continuous stream of new employees how to do their jobs.

The battlefield and opposing forces. |
So, i set up a half sized battlefield, with 750 points of Storm Wardens (my side) to fight an equal sized army of The Purge (her side). She finds marines of anything other than the chaos variety totally unappealing, so CSMs seemed to be the easiest faction to start her off with (she really likes Tau, however I only have 2 Tau models).
No scenario, just a straight up 'kill each other' game. Dawn of war deployment (w/o night fight, to keep it simple). Her warlord got Hatred incarnate (and every other form of hatred that is available on the chaos boons table as the game wore on), and mine got outflank. Again, for simplicity, i just had him run with the shotgun scouts who were already going to outflank.
And what follows is my usual post battle photo dump with occasional highlights and commentary:
|
Checking line of sight for the predator hidden in that ruin.. |
|
Turn one started of uneventfully aside from both sides closing quickly. |
|
'Her Majesty' looking as neglected as she can while at the same time, remaining as comfortable as was possible. Needless to say, her efforts to make us feel guilty for playing 40k instead of with her didn't work... |
|
The 'enemy' enjoys having scored first blood via my rhino. |
|
A no-frills combat squad of tactical marines really shouldn't engage Plague marines in close combat... |
|
My flanking maneuver stalls and summarily fails as Captain 'I killed Draigo's' power sword is all but useless vs. Miasmos' termie armor. The scouts meanwhile were wading thru cultists with mixed results. |
|
The scout sergeant fought to the end, but his cause was lost. |
|
After the loss of my predator, the last Storm Warden survivors contemplate their demise... |
|
...and as you can see, this was their demise! |
...and uh, yeah. That was that, tabled on turn 7. Still was fun a fun game and towards the end she seemed to have a good handle on the rules. The quote of the night was 'next time I'm bringing my dice'.
Yup, she's a gamer!

Fun read! She messaged me the next day and I can tell you have unleashed a beast on that night, I forsee more humiliating loses ahead for our armies! LOL. BTW, I like that method for showing wrecked rhinos, I might have to try that.
Bring her to the Morristown tournament, then you and Screech and relive her victory all the way home. :)
Looked like everyone was having fun... everyone except Molly. :) Did she at least get a post combat cuddle?
"unleashed a beast on that night"
lol, you have no idea...wink, wink.
As for the rhino, unfortunately if it is glued together, to make it look like that requires a sledgehammer which is not recommended...
Do headless Blood Angels fall under the unappealing rule?
So when do we team up versus her in Battletech and watch heads get caped?
Of course they do, duh!
Don't know if she has any interest in CBT, or the length of time required for the usual game of it.
Yes, I was completely unprepared as I didn't even know we were playing, which in retrospect may have been a good thing as I didn't have a chance to be all anxious and whatnot. And what can I say.. the whole Emperor worship mindset dealio isn't my thing and yes the fluff matters to me (I'm a girl and we like the whole story behind the armies and so on).
But I did have alot of fun and like any newly popped virgin I want to do it again and soon (rawr)!!
And what Da Masta Cheef fails to mention is the fact that he helped me along as I was completely clueless on the codex and exactly how the rules of engagement went. So although I did end up tabling him *wink wink nudge nudge*... it wasn't all due to my brilliant strategies.. ;) Nonetheless, I'm totally taking the win and running with it! <(^0^)>
@ Neverness Yes with my taste for first blood I am ready to dominate and destroy! Bwaahahahahaha!
Battletech..? Well I don't know anything about the mini game, but I've played Mech RPG (namely Robotech) and a few Mech computer games. As for the length of time it requires, I'm good for the long haul!
Yes yes.. unleashing the beast was a good theme for the night on a few levels! 40K foreplay!
I almost titled this post '40k foreplay' lol.
But since you didn't, I thought I'd add it in. ;)
Battletech is a lot like the movie 'Robojocks', but less exciting....;) Still, it is good to know that the humiliation didn't stop at the game table... :)
Like Robotjocks? LOL, the politics ruin the robot fun big time. Robot Wars the odd sequel was along the same lines, but I liked it better. I think you give the movie far too much credit.
Battletech has more tactical elements so you can't be killed in the first round from a lucky first turn. Plus initiative randomizes player actions somewhat so the advantage swings both ways.
LOL....it was a loaded comment, I list it amongst the top 5 worst movies I have ever seen... Along with Druids, Garbage Pail Kids...
Oh ... I read about Garbage Pail kids it causes retard rage. House of the Dead is the worst on my list hands down.
D&D the Movie!!!! we STILL blame Rob for suggesting that one to us...
..l..
Murl
You know Cheef, you need to start backing off on the flirting so much in your blog. You're going to make Screech so jealous at this rate.
Bullet sponge will comfort screech.
Bullet Sponge comforts no one. Derision, plain and simple.
Tri-cities Bromance has been thwarted.
I must now keep my faith elsewhere in
the Last Alliance of Local Gamers.
Rogue knows all about it.
My gf plays 40, watches zombie movies and kicks alliance ass with me in WoW its a lot of fun finding a nerdy girl. And there usually amazing after "wink" very accommodating
