Some changes for Da Groop

o/

That the blurred out yoof in the background is suffering from as much angst as his GorkaMorka counterpart here on the left!

Recently Neverness inquired about our (usually) annual Orks vs. Orks game. I had no idea what my army totaled up to  using the new codex, nor did I even know what was even still included in my collection. Thus, I dug out Da boyz, and tallied everything up (minus da bomma which I'll get to in a bit) and they clocked in at about 850ish points.

Looking to up that total to 1k, I perused eBay and found a decently painted mob of 10 shoota boys, lead by a nob with a slugga and power klaw, as well as a rokkit launcha grunt for a whopping $17.50!

There were also three extras thrown in: the above shoota boy who was headless, a poorly painted GorkaMorka boy, and an old OOP WHFB Black Ork with 2 hand weapons on a square base.

I'm gonna get you sucka!

As you can see I repainted da GorkaMorka yoof (tis a bit shiny in these pics as I hadn't yet matte varnished him). He's pretty well equipped for just a yoof, meaning he likely knifed a Bad Moon yoof in da back (in typical Blood Axe fashion) and stole his gear.

For the headless ork, I scrounged up a primed spare out of my bitz box, glued it in place and painted it up. The result is a decent enough match to the original paint as can be seen above. The square baser was given to Frankie as a test mini to try and see if he likes painting minis or not. That'll likely be another post in the future.

Anyways, this new mob rounds Da Groop out to bout 1k, or at least it did until the new point values were released. I'll wait till Battlescribe updates before I see if that made any difference or not.

Da camo trousers puts the new mob squarely in da Blood Axe camp!

As for da Bomma (bleh, I hope he repaints everything but the krew), 7 years ago Admiral Drax held a contest on his blog, I won and as such he painted my Tankbustas for me as my prize. That popped up as a Facebook memory and I asked if he had the 7 year itch to paint some more Orks.

To my amazement he did! After some discussion, we decided on my Blitzbomma which I had more or given upon some ways back. I didn't care for the direction my color scheme was going in, and not knowing what to do, I put it in its battlefoam tray and forgot about it. There it has languished for almost two years now.

Anyways, Drax and I settled on an expedited completion date of 1-3 years. So, it'll take a bit for my 'mediocre commission' as he calls it. Late last week da grots loaded up and filled da long ways fyool tanks and da bomma iz now flyin' over da sea for its extended deployment to da Ooh-kay!

Drax's refused any compensation for this wonderous deed aside from enjoying the challenge of the project. Not content with that though, I opted for at least a little way of saying thank you. Meaning that hhere's an extra bit of kit on a one-way trip included in da box. I even gift wrapped it!

Who knows, maybe Drax will keep us updated on the project on his long-neglected blog...

Tankbustas are ready to go!

o/

Per my request, I asked the good Admiral Drax not to base my Tankbustas so that I could base them to match the rest of my Ork army...and then? I based them differently anyways.

Typical.

lol, actually I opted to base them the same as I did with my GorkaMorka Orks. I guess its about time that Da Long Wayz Dezert Groop actually looked like it came from the Dezert! Going with that, I had to rebase the one Tankbusta that I didn't send as he was already painted/based.

Ere we go! Ere we go! Ere we go...

Given that aside from Da Eleet Grot Mountin Duvishun (which could theoretically be considered a separate unit), I only have a handful of Orks based in my generic flock that I've been using for years. I suppose that this is as good a time as any to give da boyz' bases a new look.

The latest survivors of the simple green...

o/

Invariably, when some paint jobs have reached the end of their useful lifespan, the model wearing that paint often hasn't. Some go onto to ebay, and others go into the Simple Green. Here are the latest wrecks (post scrubbing and rinsing) to emerge from the green (which had turned black after a few weeks of soaking):

Ya know you like those Necron Gauss hatch hinges!

This poor rhino came to me via ebay. It served with me as an Inquisition Rhino for most of its career, plus the Dark Angels (briefly), and going by the colors layers discovered, it apparently came to me as a Space Wolf vehicle. Its next stop: 30k.

I'm pretty sure there's hull damage under the pasticard on the front hull, so I'll leave it be. A lot of the little gribbly bitz on the tank were lost during the paint scrubbing, but a recent sift thru my bitz box found replacements for all those lost, and some more fun options as well.

He will have a Forgeworld backpack at least...
Sticking with 30k, here's the former Storm Wardens' Captain I killed Draigo. Yes, it hurts to erase such a glorious history but as he's one of the few survivors of an army that went the way of ebay, this guy too will join my 30k Blackshields.

Then there's this little bastard!

Still not thinking the new paint will include a red coat...

Its rare that a simple scrubbing with a toothbrush doesn't remove all of the paint aside from a few little bits in the nooks and crannies. However this fucker required an exacto to scrape a hellova lot of it off! Plus, his mace (always easily bendable) snapped off, revealing an air bubble in the cast which explained that issue. So he got a simple choppa instead.

He also got a shield (luckily that's a vaible piece of wargear in GorkaMorka) as when I removed the old shield, it was a really bad hackjob underneath! Either I had just gotten my dremel, or was still using a rasp and files. Either way, that had to be covered! he also got the only Ork slugga I found in my bitz box!

Also, just an FYI, this coming holiday weekend will be spent with family in the mountains of North Carolina, so don't look for a Monday update. Instead you'll have to wait till Thursday.

Have a good weekend folks!

Lordy, Lordy, Da Masta Cheef is Forty!

Yeah, yeah, whatever...its all fun and games and then it happens to you. Eh, I'm still playing with 'toys' so its safe to say by this point that I'm never gonna grow up! Speaking of toys, it only seems appropriate here on Da Long Wayz Groop, to mark the occasion by showing off my most recently painted Orks:

Wen stelf iz needed, Da Boss sens out da 'Sneeky Git' to do da job!

Perhaps he's genetically programmed to be a Deff Skull, or perhaps he just knows dat 'bloo's a lukky color.' Regardless he's da cheef spanner (I'm going to have at least 2) in my mob.

Gorkamorka has rekindled my love of the Orks and as such they've returned to the painting queue (due mainly to the fact that virtually all of the painted ones went the way of ebay). Their bases are 'a little bland' in Wolfy's opinion (needz more skullz?), but they are in a dezert. I wanted them to be based with something different than my normal 'generic' 40k flock-mix. That way da boyz specifically painted for GorkaMorka to stand out from the rest of my army.

GorkaMorka called...

...it wants it's Red Gobbo back.

I hope you didn't want to buy one on ebay. Holy crap! Look at those prices! For a stinkin' GROT!?!?!? I don't care if its a long out-of-production special character, that's just stupid! Now, whilst I don't think I'll be fielding a rebel grot force, I would like that model for my mob, and it just so happens that I have him already...

Dis, iz (or rather wuz) Da Redd Barrun! A minor chieftain in my 2nd O&G army, and Da Warlord of my 3rd and final, purely goblin Warhammer army. Ironically, of all of my green skinned fantasy armies, the all goblin vesrion was the most effective (and I only had 6 fanatics!). As you can see, his slugga was removed and replaced with a shield taken from the old Dogs of War general Lorenzo Lupo (and now you know why that guy disappeared from existence, the gobbo's ate him!).

These photos were taken shortly after Da Barun was taken out of retirement in my Hall of Heroes and just before he went into the Simple green for a much needed bath. He joined the (now former) Captain I killed Draigo of Storm Wardens' fame, and an old, original rhino with waaay too many layers of paint on it. The latter two will go to my 30k Blackshields, whereas the barun will go to GorkaMorka (though the color of his coat remains to be determined...

Oi! LOOK WOT DA BOYZ GOT!!!

Demz got da ORKY FORT!!!!

I got these beauties fully assembled, based, in pristine condition and at a bargain price from War Frog last night! Now we can get down to playin' GorkaMorka all good'n propa! That said, this week I'm playing Bolt Action vs. Bob, but I'll ask the rest of the gang if they want me to bring the fort for them to use (and I'm already assuming the answer will be 'yes') lol.

On a different note; Clayton, builder of the mighty battlewagon Cassandra from my last post just started a blog of his own called: Pug of WAAARGH!, and when I say 'just started' I mean, like...today (well, yesterday as this will post tomorrow), but uh...whatever, just go and check it out!!

Cassandra joins us for GorkaMorka Game 2.

o/

Okay, not to burst anyone's bubble here, but Cassandra isn't a female gamer. Yes I know that in the gaming world at large, gaming women are rare, but locally they're just part of the norm. That said, Cassandra (or is it: K'sandruh?) is named after a woman.

Ya see Clayton bought a $12 firetruck model at the FLGS, and over the course of the week converted it into an awesome battlewagon to use in GorkaMorka (yes there are roolz for those here). Why did he name it Cassnadra? Well (quote): 'Its named after my brother's girlfriend, because she's a big bitch!'

lol, wow, with an intro like that you deserve to see some photos to see 'her' for yourself:

You can still recognize the vague outline of a fire truck...
The funky turret still lacks a gun, but it was a rokkit launcha with a yoof gunner (because that was effective).
The cab's roof is removable so he'll be able to paint the driver and interior.
Plenty of room for Clayton's boyz!

Here are just a few random pics of game 2. Game 1 wasn't confusing enough with 3 players, so this time we had 4! This was another learning game, with no campaign rules or bottling out rolls, more a fight to the death or (as it turned out) till okay we're tired and most everything is dead/immobilized.

The following are a few random pics (possibly in the correct order), most were unfortunately blurry/bad and coherent picture of the game was lost with their deletion...

Two of my Trakks lining up to run down 2 grots that had disembarked from Cassandra.

The (typically) failed thrusterbuster move. I did run them down eventually, a few times actually. Oddly though, getting hit by a speeding vehicle is only a S:3 hit, and grots were more resilient in the olden days...
Scott's beautifully painted minis. He didn't paint them however, a detail he ought to have left out considering how impressed we all were with them.
The thrusterbuster chart strikes again! Meaning Cassandra was just short of pancaking my Nob on his bike!
Clayton's nob boards my trakk (and eventually cleared the vehicle of my crew!).
...by this point virtually all of the vehicles were immobilixed, and the enraged drivers were cleaning house in close combat!
Da boys: Clayton (front Left), Scott (back Left), Me (Front right) and Nick (back right)

Again much fun was had, and there are yet more people looking to join in for a campaign!

1st game of GorkaMorka!

o/

Clayton and his buddy Andy were on hand Saturday to muddle thru our first game of GorkaMorka. We figured that being my first game of it in a decade or so, the their first game ever, why not make it easy and have 3 mobs running around, right? No scenario was used beyond to just kill each other, and we weren't bothering with the campaign stuff either. 100 Teef and Ork hilarity were all that we needed!

Okay, I'm going to be honest here, Cards Against Humanity aside, I haven't laughed this much in a game of anything in years (indeed, I had a bit of a sore throat by the game's end)! The game was a blast, and we can't wait to play it again!

Playing chicken, ramming, stealing bikes and trakks (one bike on the table was in possession of all 3 mobs at one point or another during the game...dunno if that's legal or not, but we thought it was fun!). The following is a photo dump of the insanity and hilarity, and fair warning, the captions may not present a coherent picture of what happened during the course of the game, but such is the nature of Orky gang warfare!

Turn 1, Orks speed off in every direction!
Turn 2, due to misreading the rules on playing chicken, the trukk swerves out of the path of a bike!
A thuster spin results in a ramming of a sorts, with the trukk immobilizing itself!
Piling out of the Trukk, Clayton's boyz charge Andy's wartrakk, and HTH begins (btw, the old HTH rules are really weird by today's standards!).
After my trukk pancaked Clayton's bike, da Boys piled out and gunfight erupted (with very little effect, and the HTH combat wasn't much better). Andy tried to join in, but was too busy crashing into his own wartrakk...
The passing trakk hits the 2 orks in HTH and they both rolled the SAME THING, DIRECTION AND ALL when getting knocked out of the trakk's way! lol, thus they continued to fight!
Andy's speeding bike knocks them apart though, still no wounds inflicted from either hit-and-run!
Diving off of the bike, his nob (represented by a spanner) charges my Nob! (and sexual knob jokes ensued...)
Clayton steals da bike!
With my nob out of action, Andy's Nob tries to steal back his bike! but fails the initiative roll to do so!
Meanwhile on the other side of the table, HTH is still raging, using that distration Clayton's trukk driver tries to steal Andy's wartrakk!
My slaver (with the torch) rolls a 1 to jump on the bike, and in doing so, knocks Clayton's rider off of it. DA BIKE IZ MINE!!! As an aside, the primed green ork basically spent the game crawling around on the ground in a facedown state. That's no way to get into the paint queue...
The wartrakk theft turns uglier...
My slaver rides off with his prize!
Having stolen the trakk, something goes wrong, there's a spin-turned-collision that results in an engine explosion and Orks are thrown everywhere!

lol, we ended after that an epic moment was (we felt) a good'n propa' end to da game! Aside from the brawl on the wartrakk, the preceding turns consisted mostly of driving around and not hitting anything. Unlike current 40k, where vehicles can all turn on the spot, in GorkaMorka vehicles turn in more realistic arcs, which makes running down even a face-down ork far more difficult than you would think it would be.

GORKAMORKA!!! GORKAMORKA!!! GORKAMORKA!!! GORKAMORKA!!! GORKAMORKA!!! GORKAMORKA!!!

All I had to do to finish my Grymn Stug was paint a single base, and I wouldn't have gotten away with that if it hadn't been for those meddling Orks...

Da' Trainin' Wheelz Mob (hopefully, they'll get a new name once a campaign starts...).

I'm thinking Mad Max, Fury Road had something to do with it honestly. As recently one of the guys in our FLGS' FB group asked 'who wants to play?' (along with spouting various quotes from the movie...), and...well, seems like a lot of us did!

Printed on both page sides, spiral bound and ready to go!

He posted links and I downloaded Da Roolz, Da uvver book and Digganob, got them spiral bound at Fedexkinkos, and this coming Saturday we'll try our hand at this game that none of us have played in...well, forever it seems! If all goes well, a campaign will ensue once we all have the rules down (again).

Skipping the stupid tiny bases leaves room for only 4 Boyz, though I do wonder if I can build a 'top deck' over the roll bars & tops of the boarding planks.

My Spanner & this paint-less grunt will represent the trukk's crew (with luck they'll not have to disembark during any battles).

I have no chance at finding a gubbinz turn template, but if you'll excuse me, I need to rummage around the game room to see if I can find some sustained fire dice...
