Recently (as in the last two posts on both of my blogs), my page hits have gone thru the roof. My previous post on this blog crested 1000 views just this week! Yet no one comments. So where are these views coming from? Bots, Ai queries, or actual hobbyist views? I am sure that there are at least a few of the latter.
Personally, I am thinking that this has something to do with blogger's new search link suggestions (which were declined for this post). According to my blog stats, a large chunk of views are coming from google as always, yet an extraordinary number of views are coming from a non-descript 'other' that is primarily US based (or so their VPNs say) and using the Microsoft operating system.
Curiously, the old Faeit 212 is still a strong contributor of what I would call legitimate page views, but those are a mere pittance compared to this recent onslaught. So please, comment below and let me know:

I've noticed a simliar increase in traffic to my blog and I had wondered where it might be coming from. I'd be interested if you see a difference with this post with the link suggestions declined.
The Faeit blog exchange still also contributes some traffic to my blog and there are a few other blogs that have a blog roll.
And to answer your question: Hey there! I go by the name of XarfaiEngel on the internet and by Paul in real life. I've been doing the miniature hobby without break since about 2009. Right now m obsessions are the Horus Heresy, Legions Imperalis and, as always, Middle-earth.
Of course I read this blog. I can't always come up with a witty comment though. I too. Have seen an abnormal surge in views on my most recent posts. Not sure how and where they are originating from...

In answer to your question: No, declining the search links had no effect. 200+ hits today (although the analytics also said 17 views which strikes me as a more realistic number). Additionally, I've have 40,000+ views in the past month! Alas, I am guessing the page views are no longer relevant...
Neverness: Oh I know you read this (and curiously, my TBAGers blog as well). Indeed we were discussing this recent spike in hits a few weeks back.
I asked google and the 'other' category of referring sites is for VPNs. I guess the bot (Necron?) uprising has begun, with us bloggers being their first targets!
Those numbers are really weird. Like you say, it looks like they don't hold water any longer to guage interest and comments might be better.
I thought it could be webcrawlers of the Abominable Intelligence – so that eveyone can write a blog post in owr specific style (I don't know who would want that!). But we will probably never know for sure.
