Some changes for Da Groop

o/

That the blurred out yoof in the background is suffering from as much angst as his GorkaMorka counterpart here on the left!

Recently Neverness inquired about our (usually) annual Orks vs. Orks game. I had no idea what my army totaled up to  using the new codex, nor did I even know what was even still included in my collection. Thus, I dug out Da boyz, and tallied everything up (minus da bomma which I'll get to in a bit) and they clocked in at about 850ish points.

Looking to up that total to 1k, I perused eBay and found a decently painted mob of 10 shoota boys, lead by a nob with a slugga and power klaw, as well as a rokkit launcha grunt for a whopping $17.50!

There were also three extras thrown in: the above shoota boy who was headless, a poorly painted GorkaMorka boy, and an old OOP WHFB Black Ork with 2 hand weapons on a square base.

I'm gonna get you sucka!

As you can see I repainted da GorkaMorka yoof (tis a bit shiny in these pics as I hadn't yet matte varnished him). He's pretty well equipped for just a yoof, meaning he likely knifed a Bad Moon yoof in da back (in typical Blood Axe fashion) and stole his gear.

For the headless ork, I scrounged up a primed spare out of my bitz box, glued it in place and painted it up. The result is a decent enough match to the original paint as can be seen above. The square baser was given to Frankie as a test mini to try and see if he likes painting minis or not. That'll likely be another post in the future.

Anyways, this new mob rounds Da Groop out to bout 1k, or at least it did until the new point values were released. I'll wait till Battlescribe updates before I see if that made any difference or not.

Da camo trousers puts the new mob squarely in da Blood Axe camp!

As for da Bomma (bleh, I hope he repaints everything but the krew), 7 years ago Admiral Drax held a contest on his blog, I won and as such he painted my Tankbustas for me as my prize. That popped up as a Facebook memory and I asked if he had the 7 year itch to paint some more Orks.

To my amazement he did! After some discussion, we decided on my Blitzbomma which I had more or given upon some ways back. I didn't care for the direction my color scheme was going in, and not knowing what to do, I put it in its battlefoam tray and forgot about it. There it has languished for almost two years now.

Anyways, Drax and I settled on an expedited completion date of 1-3 years. So, it'll take a bit for my 'mediocre commission' as he calls it. Late last week da grots loaded up and filled da long ways fyool tanks and da bomma iz now flyin' over da sea for its extended deployment to da Ooh-kay!

Drax's refused any compensation for this wonderous deed aside from enjoying the challenge of the project. Not content with that though, I opted for at least a little way of saying thank you. Meaning that hhere's an extra bit of kit on a one-way trip included in da box. I even gift wrapped it!

Who knows, maybe Drax will keep us updated on the project on his long-neglected blog...

Da boyz iz back in town!

 o/

My assembled Kill Team Ork Kommandos:

Honestly, they really are beautiful sculpts!

As I've sold off my KT rules and tokens, these will instead be folded into my Ork army's scant infantry forces (increasing it by almost a third)! The only speshulists built were the rokkit launcha boy to round out my Tankbustas to an even dozen (+ bomb squig), and da snipa which will serve as a big shoota since his gun is already a big shoota with stock, scope and flash suppressor added.

I also modified the sluggas with the horizontal muzzles that made them look more like giant flat-head screws rather than gun barrels-seriously what the hell is up with that design? Are da boys stealing shuriken ammo from da panzies now? I think not...

Oops! I forgot to add in the mouthful of grenades. Oh well...

MO DAKKA!

o/

Notta whole lot of progress on the hobby front this week aside from priming a bucket load of minis which is anything but exciting. I had intended on posting a Kill Team battle report, however whilst Da Long Ways Dezert Groop is capable of slogging for 20 minutes thru a torrential downpour, my opposing forces who live 10 minutes from the FLGS, and more importantly were merely suffering from lightly raining conditions and didn't want to come out due to the inclement weather.

Apparently, in the Grim Darkness of the Future, war is only fought (inside) on a sunny day.

Deth to oomes!

So instead all I have on offer is my meager painting progress of finishing off the half-painted (for ages now) 'MO DAKKA!' Mo earned his name way back when, in the one Shadow War game that I played where he proved to be far more effective than any one Shoota boy ought to be. He's one of the Maxmini Green Alliance Kickstarter minis and is now serving unda da kommand of SCHULTZ! as one of my two Blood Axe Kommando big shoota boys.

Only 3 more Kommandos to paint. ETA of squad completion: a year or three...

However unlike his lone performance in Shadow War, we all know that Ork Kommandos haven't been worth a damn since 2nd ed 40k, so odds are he'll just die horribly in the typical Kommando fashion.

SCHULTZ! is joinin' da Kommandos!

o/

SCHULTZ! has commanded Da Eleet Grot Mountin' Duvishun ever since he lead the charge in which my grots earned that title. That game, way back when, was a Kill Point battle vs. the nids. After some outflanking genestealers obliterated my Killa Kans, da grots lead by an enraged SCHULTZ! repelled out of some ruins and suicidally charged the stealers! Despite heavy casualties, THREE FULL TURNS later the hive mind redirected some hormagaunts into that particular fray to avoid losing a kill point! And thus Da Grot Duvishun's legacy was born.

Since then SCHULTZ! has (for the most part) dutifully lead Da Eleet Grot Mountin Divishun, including once in its entirety (200+ grots) vs. da lil' lions of 'arlek. In that epic blood bath he took on the mantle of Ork Warboss (I don't recall who won that one, only just that da duvishun was reduced to its usual number by game's end).

SCHULTZ!'s other most notable action came when he lead yet another suicide charge into some Deff Wing Termies who had tellyported into da backfield and were running amok!

Suk it oomies!!!

Despite Da Grot Duvishun's valiant (yet feeble) assault, no Termies were injured for the loss of all of the grots. However rather than let da oomies run amok once more in their following movement phase, SCHULTZ! laughed in the face of his impending doom and rolled a snake eyes for his morale test, pinning them in place (but not for much longer)!

Da new runtherder, vs da lil' lions again.

Anyways, in his last few battles, SCHULTZ! has fought as a regular slugga grunt and one of my weedy spanners who has a squighound on his base has assumed command of da Grot Duvishun.

Green iz BEST! (even for coats)

As such, SCHULTZ! got a minor, partial repaint and will now serve as the nob of my small Kommandos mob. True, he's no bigger than the other kommandos, but he's gotta fancy coat, hat and iz a proovin',  kunnin' leader!

My 1st round of Shadow War!

o/

As the title says, this past weekend was my 1st try at the new Necromunda 1.3 Shadow War! Having three players, Bob, Screech and myself, we tried out the Grab the cache scenario. What follows is my usual photo-dump/pseudo battle report.

Da Long Ways Dezert Groop deploys for battle.

Wait, wah? Screech is...is, advancing?!?

On my first turm, the (now named) 'Mo Dakka' pumps a stream of big shoota rounds at Bob's team leader, taking him out of the game before he ever got to move!

Da boys spread out, shootas blazing!

Screech's Space Wolf scouts do the same.

Note the scouts alarmingly effective camoflage!

On his 3rd turn (of continuous shooting) Mo Dakka made his 2nd kill of the game, emptying his big shoota's ammo drum into another of Bob's Cadians, scoring no less than 3 wounds!

lol, Screech's Scout rolled a '1' to hit!

Whereas all 3 boys, each shooting with an average of 2 shots a piece also all missed! So much fail in this building...

Sarge was taken down by an unseen scout, the other still failed to hit and was taken out when the remaining two boys charged and killed him! Also, and well after this point we had realized that we had forgotten about the automatic break tests when a model is taken out of action within 2" of another.

Bob and I observing Screech's bad rolling.

Shenanigan's in progress...

...requiring a consultation of the rules...

...Bob's not helping...

...until he got tired of us not finding the answer...

Moving on, I'm sure all of the confusion was caused by the notion of Screech's scout reaching the central objective FIRST!

Sarge's killer is taken down!

Mo Dakka, sprints towards the table's center!

It seems as though Bob forgot that this wasn't a squad based game, as his Cadians advance enmass.

Where he swiftly took 2 counters.

Da boys moved in close, gunz blazing and took down the grenade launcher gunner. Only to both be pinned in turn. Following this, we (as in Bob and I) realized the bottle test is at 25% casualties, not 50% as we had thought. Immediately thereafter we both promptly failed our tests, handing Screech a swift victory!

Welp, poor LD rolls resulting in Screech's sudden win aside (which Bob was a little less than pleased with), it was a fun game. As the battlefield debut of my WWII Orks, I'm happy with them racking up the most kills of the game...or at least I think they did. I didn't really keep count (because Orks, math...yeah about that), regardless it was fun and I look forward to playing some more in the future.

This week in the Appalachian Subsector...

Here we see Kushial, as he plots our demise...

There's notta whole lot to report on the hobby front. Wolfy and I got in a game of X-wing last week vs. Kushial. With Rebels all around it was a 'training session' which ended with Wolfy saying: 'Good list Honey, thanks!' Yeah sure, why do I keep giving the 'good' lists to you and not to me again? At least I got to use my ARC-170 that she got me for Christmas. In its maiden game it did fairly well (before I was unceremoniously wiped off of the board).

I've also gotten a little bit of base coating in on two more of my WWII Orks. Not a whole lot I'm afraid, but hopefully I can finish these two in the next week or so.

Aside from that, I'm afraid that that's about it. Well, except that Papa Nurgle has cast his gaze upon me once more. Whilst I'm not full blown sick, so I kinda feel...bleh.

Yay.

Da' MAHREENZ!!!

Hoo sez da' stoopid beakies iz da only wunz?

This mini still needs to be clear coated, but its raining currently which isn't exactly ideal weather for that. Honestly, I was kinda worried about putting a greenskin in a green uniform. Green on green doesn't leave a whole lot of room for contrast and skin tones aside, Ork armies tend to be every color BUT green even though:

GREEN IZ BEST!

However I'm using the Vallejo US Infantry Paint Set which contains the colors for the USA's WWII infantry. Considering that I used this mini as a test model (always best to use the squad Sgt. for that right?), I think that he came out pretty good. Although I don't think this is quite the historical accuracy that Vallejo had in mind...

Edit: Sorry for the crummy pics, I was in kindova hurry as it was late. That said, I see a few touch ups needed on his face before I give him that clear coat.
